What is Seedling Board?
Seedling Board is a kanban-style task tracker for eco-friendly habits. You add small actions such as recycling, cutting plastic, composting, saving energy or joining a community clean-up, then move each card through To Do, In Progress and Done. Finishing a task earns leaves and sets off a gentle fireworks animation.
- Three columns: To Do, In Progress and Done.
- Five colour-coded habit types: Recycle, Cut plastic, Compost, Save energy and Community.
- Reminder dates that flag tasks as due today or overdue.
- Daily or weekly repeats that bring a finished habit back to To Do.
- Leaves, a day streak and a water-droplet progress gauge.
- No account: your board is saved in your own browser.
Which eco habits can I track?
Seedling Board groups tasks into five habit types. Each type has its own colour and icon, and you can filter the board by type.
| Habit type | Example task | Example effort |
|---|---|---|
| Recycle | Rinse and sort the recycling | 1 leaf |
| Cut plastic | Carry a bottle and a cloth bag all week | 1 leaf |
| Compost | Start a kitchen compost caddy | 2 leaves |
| Save energy | Unplug idle chargers overnight | 1 leaf |
| Community | Join the neighbourhood clean-up | 3 leaves |
How do leaves, streaks and the droplet work?
Every task has an effort level. Finishing a task earns the leaves for that level, and the totals feed the stats at the top of the board.
| Effort level | Time guide | Leaves earned |
|---|---|---|
| Quick | About 5 minutes | 1 |
| Steady | About an hour | 2 |
| Big | About half a day | 3 |
- Leaves earned: the sum of the leaves on every task in Done.
- Day streak: the number of consecutive days, counting back from today, on which you finished at least one task. If you have not finished one yet today, the count starts from yesterday.
- Droplet: finished tasks as a percentage of all tasks on the board, rounded to the nearest whole number.
Which small eco actions are worth doing first?
These actions suit the habit types above. Each one is backed by a public source listed under references.
- Rinse and sort recycling. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency advises emptying and rinsing plastic, metal and glass containers, keeping paper clean and dry, and checking your local provider's rules, because items that do not belong can contaminate the recycling stream.[3]
- Use food before it is wasted. About one-third of food in the United States goes uneaten, and the EPA estimates that about 96% of households' wasted food in 2019 went to landfills, combustion facilities or the sewer rather than to compost.[4]
- Compost scraps. The EPA describes home composting as a way to reduce the amount of material sent to landfills and incinerators.[2]
- Cut standby power. The U.S. Department of Energy says standby power accounts for 5 to 10 percent of residential energy use and could cost an average household up to $100 a year.[1]
- Carry reusables. The United Nations notes that the world produces more than 400 million tons of plastic every year.[5]
| Measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Share of U.S. food that goes uneaten | About one-third | U.S. EPA[4] |
| U.S. households' wasted food that was composted (2019) | About 4% | U.S. EPA[4] |
| Standby power as a share of U.S. residential energy use | 5 to 10 percent | U.S. Department of Energy[1] |
| Global plastic production per year | More than 400 million tons | United Nations[5] |
Figures describe the United States unless stated otherwise. Recycling rules differ by place, so check with your local provider.
What do people ask about Seedling Board?
What is Seedling Board?
Seedling Board is a kanban-style task tracker for eco-friendly habits. You add actions such as recycling, cutting plastic, composting, saving energy or joining a clean-up, then move each card through To Do, In Progress and Done.
How do I mark an eco task as done?
Select the check circle on the card, drag the card into the Done column, or use the right arrow button. A gentle fireworks animation plays and you earn leaves equal to the task's effort level.
Can I set reminders and repeating habits?
Yes. Give a task a Remind me on date and the card shows Due today or how many days overdue it is. Choose Every day or Every week and the next copy of the task is added to To Do when you finish the current one.
How are leaves, streaks and the droplet calculated?
Each finished task earns 1, 2 or 3 leaves for a quick, steady or big effort. The day streak counts consecutive days with at least one finished task. The droplet shows finished tasks as a percentage of all tasks on the board.
Where is my data stored?
Your board is saved in your own browser on the device you use. There is no account and your tasks are not sent to a server, so clearing site data removes them and they do not sync between devices.
Does Seedling Board work on phones?
Yes. On narrow screens the three columns stack into one, and each card has arrow buttons so you can move tasks without dragging.
Does the celebration respect reduced-motion settings?
Yes. If your device asks for reduced motion, the fireworks are skipped and you see a short thank-you message instead.
